Updating Firmware

Updating Firmware

Notes
Use this article as a guide to updating the firmware on a WIC2 box using the Optiweigh App

Tools Required

  1. Smartphone with the Optiweigh app installed and up-to-date
  2. Phillips Head Screwdriver

Introduction

In general, when we find a bug in the Optiweigh firmware that is causing problems, we can do a remote firmware update to fix the problem.
If that doesn't work, a manual firmware update may be required.

Preparing the Update

Warning
To complete the update, you must physically be next to the unit
  1. Open the Optiweigh App

  2. Click on 'Unit Maintenance'. Click on connect to 'Optiweigh Wi-Fi network' then connect to your unit's Wi-Fi and wait for the blue tick
    1. The WiFi name will be Optiweigh[Serial Number] e.g. if the serial number is 1264, the Wi-Fi will display as Optiweigh1264

  3. While in settings, go into the 'Mobile' section and ensure mobile data is turned off

Completing the Update

  1. Head back into the app and allow 'Local Networks' if asked. The unit should display in a light blue box above 'Check Unit'

  2. Scroll down and click on 'Update Unit' then 'Update Now'

  3. The power light should start flashing orange/red. Then the unit should turn off and on and you'll hear a beep as it restarts

  4. Once the unit has restarted, this means the update was successful, even if the app continues to spin, just restart the app to make it disappear.
Idea
If you can't connect to the unit's WiFi easily, use a phillip's head screwdriver to take the WIC computer box off the backboard and try again
