Use this article as a guide to keeping an Optiweigh unit clean and functional
Introduction
Living in a paddock, Optiweigh units are designed to survive in mud, muck, and dust. Part of this is the units are made to be very easy to clean!
To get the most out of the unit, we recommend cleaning it when it comes past the shed.
Continue reading through this guide for a few things to keep in mind.
Prevention
There are a few ways to minimise the frequency of cleaning the units, especially in some high rainfall areas:
Placement - If you have a bit of a rise or some gravel near where you want to put it, use it!
Bogging - Move it when it starts to gets bogged down, the longer it's left the harder it'll be to get out!
Conveyor belt - Some producers place a bit of conveyor belt at the entrance to the unit, this stops the animals digging the area out
Cleaning
Load bars
Mud build-up underneath the platform can sometimes be an issue, especially in high rainfall areas (or seasons). Using a pressure washer or air compressor are the simplest, and quickest solutions to blowing all the muck out from under a unit.
1. Fully jack up the unit to give easy access to the underside of the platform.
2. Blow it all out!
Solar Panel
The main issue the solar panel runs into is dust build-up. We have designed the panel to be too big as we know it won't get cleaned very often... That said, when it does come to cleaning, it is very easy.
Simply wipe the dust off the panel with a cloth or a rag.
Steel
The last thing to keep in mind is the steel, specifically in and around the lick tub. Many attractants can be quite caustic, so this will be the first area to show signs of corrosion. If you have the unit at the pressure washer, take the opportunity to clean any spilt lick away and slow the rusting process!
The units don't have to be sparkly clean, just functional!
